Passing the mic
Today is the first day of the COP climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland. For the next two weeks, I'll be periodically handing over the keys to @EricHolthaus on Twitter to youth climate activists from around the world.
We've heard enough from our world leaders to know that they will not be the ones to save us. We're going to have to save ourselves and each other.
For the next two weeks, you'll hear youth voices from around the world on my Twitter feed, including:
Kevin Mtai — from Kenya, co-founder of the Kenya Environmental Action Network
Zanagee Artis — from the US, co-founder of Zero Hour
Alexandria Villaseñor — from the US, founder of Earth Uprising
...and more.
I'm working with Earth Uprising — a youth-led global climate movement — to turn over my platform to youth who are working for a better outcome in Glasgow and around the world. If you're a youth climate activist and would like to be included, send me a DM or an email.
If I've learned anything from youth climate activists, it's that it's not their job to create revolutionary change on their own. That's the job of all of us — especially people who are in positions of power, people who have platforms, people in positions of influence, no matter how large or small.
We all need to imagine what a future would look like in which climate justice is our guiding principle, and then work to make that world happen.
