Hey everyone, it's been awhile. Happy day of ❀️ β€” for yourself, for each other, and for this planet we're so lucky to share.

I've been thinking the past few months about how best to build community here, and basically decided to stop worrying so much about trying to get it perfect and just go for it. So here we go.

I'm thrilled to announce that in 2022, The Phoenix will be focused on weekly topics that need careful disassembly and reimagining. Our goal will be to practice critical creativity as climate revolutionaries β€” to burn down the system and build something that works for everyone.

I've got a survey for you today to help choose our discussion topics for the year:

The Phoenix β€” 2022 discussion topics
The Phoenix is a community for climate revolutionaries. We’re focused on sharing stories, mutual aid, and building a world that’s safe, equitable, and works for everyone on a rapidly changing planet. Find out more and subscribe here: https://thephoenix.earth/about/

I previously sketched out this plan last fall when we re-launched the community on Ghost. Based on previous surveys from The Phoenix members, our discussions will focus on building community, skills sharing, and conversation about solutions β€” including what doesn't work.

I've decided on a schedule and cadence that I think will work really well, and most importantly will be possible for me to pull off β€” even factoring in *waves hands* all this that's going on.

Sundays: Announcing each week's theme

Each Sunday you'll get a short email from me with a preview of the week's topic. We'll probably get to about 40 topics this year, so I'm expecting a huge variety of styles and content, depending on what's in the news, and depending on our interest as a community. Please fill out the survey to suggest topics!

What are taboo questions about climate you've always wanted to ask? What are skills you really would like to connect with other folks about? Β There's no real rules, and we can do pretty much anything we want.

Tuesday evenings: Live audio chat on Twitter Spaces β€” with a special guest

Each Tuesday, I'll have a live conversation with people who have done cool things, have interesting viewpoints, focusing on folks with diverse perspectives.

I'll announce the Twitter Spaces link in the Sunday email. Here's week 1's link: https://twitter.com/i/spaces/1dRJZlrnOVMKB/peek

Thursdays: Short summary post with shared links

Each Thursday, I'll do a short wrap-up post on the week's discussion, with the focus on something I learned, was surprised by, or want to learn more about. I'll also try to share resources and links that were brought up in the Tuesday chat for further reference.

All week long, I'll be doing my best to moderate our members-only Discord (although I could use some help with this, send me an email if you'd like to help out) where we'll announce the week's Twitter Spaces guest and choose each week's discussion topic.

The goal is to make it so that everyone can participate and to be accessible to people who learn in different ways.

Without further ado, let's get right to it.
